MainStreet Tax & Accounting Services began in the unfinished basement of founder Lawrence B. Larsen’s home in Vernal, UT in 1960. Original assets for the company consisted solely of second hand equipment including a desk, calculator and file cabinet. Having graduated from Utah State University only a few years prior in the mid 1950’s, Lawrence quit his job as the bookkeeper with a Uintah Basin oil field company and embraced the entrepreneurial challenge. He devoted himself entirely to the small accounts from family and friends which he had accumulated and balanced after hours from his full-time employment. With its inception in 1960, Lawrence B. Larsen Co. became only the second public accounting firm in Vernal, and the first to have an accountant with an accounting degree. As such, the company paved the way for small rural businesses, whose owners were not necessarily financially educated, to become large players in the oil, coal and construction industries in Vernal and the surrounding areas. While operating out of one central office, the company grew in reputation and size, initially extending their client base to Emery, Carbon, and San Pete counties in Utah, then gaining clients from other states such as Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and even Ohio and Florida.
In 2005, David and Keith Larsen, sons of founder Lawrence B. Larsen, joined forces with their father following their own successes in the areas of entrepreneurship and finance. The firm was renamed MainStreet Financial Services and later changed to MainStreet Tax & Accounting Services. Since 2005, the firm has experienced over 500% growth thanks to the support and referrals from current clients and extended offices to Orem, Midvale and Vernal. While primarily serving the intermountain region of the United States, MainStreet now has client relationships spreading from the Pacific coast in California to the Atlantic coast in Florida. MainStreet has also expanded to Guatemala! Serving expats tax needs and professional data processing.
